America will remain a government ‘of the people’ only if the people get involved

“Imagine a new national movement of local leaders and activists all dedicated to limited government and free-market principles. Imagine a new national network of informed citizens working to see our country returned to her foundation of small government–citizens not only passionate about being involved, but also equipped with the tools to be as effective as possible.”

Those are the words of Ned Ryun, president of a group called American Majority, which is a national non-profit, non-partisan political training institute whose mission is to train and equip a national network of activists and leaders committed to individual freedom through limited government and the free market. It is headquartered in Purcellville, VA.

The goals of American Majority are in harmony with those of Friends of Liberty. As Ryun writes: “Great change, lasting change, comes from the bottom-up, as people unite and work together towards a common goal. Our nation, a government of ‘we the people,’ is founded on a rich tradition of active citizens, reaching from the American Revolution to the present-day citizens who care enough to be involved and make a difference.

“America will only continue to be a government of the people if the people choose to be involved. A free political system requires the representation of vigilant, liberty-minded citizens at all levels of leadership: local, state and federal.”

American Majority is reminding us that democracy doesn’t work if the people are only spectators. If people don’t get active and involved at the grassroots, everything gets decided in the backrooms of politics, dominated by special interests–corporations, unions, campaign contributors, l0bbyists, narrow interest groups representing those who want more handouts, loopholes and favors from politicians.

If you are tired of the politics we have, you have to get off your spectator’s duff. (If you aren’t tired of the politics we have, you are not paying attention!) Are you ready to get involved? Are you willing to be active? Are you tired of just talking about the issues and want to find ways to make a difference? Continue reading
